Impact of War on US Elections

Riyatullah Farooqui by Riyatullah Farooqui
April 15, 2024

In the previous column, I mentioned that there are still 9 months left in the US presidential election, but the field is as hot as if this election is to be held in just a few days. In this regard, it was said that there are both internal and external reasons. The internal reason was discussed in detail in the previous column. In today’s column, we will examine external causes.

When the current American President Joe Biden came to power, the process of American withdrawal from Afghanistan was top on the agenda. The withdrawal road map was decided in the Doha talks. Joe Biden’s scheme was that the US troops would leave but Ashraf Ghani’s government would remain. Biden had this optimism because he was calculating that the Afghan government had an army of two hundred thousand people. While the fighting force of the Taliban has never been more than 30,000 at a time. He did not know that the figure of two lakhs was only in the papers. More than half of the Afghan army consisted of ghost soldiers who had no external existence.

The result was that the Taliban overthrew the Kabul government before the American withdrawal was completed. History repeated the scene of Saigon for the Americans who were forced to escape from the roof of the embassy with the help of helicopters. It’s such an embarrassment to Joe Biden that the right-wing media has constantly brought up throughout his presidency.

When Russia invaded Ukraine just months after Afghanistan’s historic embarrassment, Biden saw a golden opportunity to erase the embarrassment. There is no doubt that if he had used Ukraine as a proxy to defeat a major power like Russia, people would have forgotten the debacle in Afghanistan.

Therefore, not only the United States but also NATO jumped into the fray to defeat Russia. But Russia depleted the US and NATO arms stockpiles within two years, and now no one has any bullets or shells to give to Ukraine. We informed you in December that from February or March of 2024, Russia will intensify its military operations. So that Joe Biden’s election campaign can be sunk. So that’s what happened, the situation since February is that Russia constantly moving forward. If anyone in the West was even remotely optimistic that Russia would be defeated, there is no trace of that optimism now.

It is worth noting that if the history of NATO countries is seen, they have always gone to the extreme to please America. The same thing happened in Ukraine. They have also committed the worst level of stupidity in their rhetoric against Russia. For example, just a few months after the Russian attack, the former German chancellor Angela Merkel said, “We did the Minsk agreement to deceive Russia, we did it to get time to fully arm Ukraine.”  And the same thing was repeated by France.

In international politics, it happens that the real purpose of some agreements is not what it seems. But no country in the world ever admits that it was not sincere in this agreement, its real purpose was something else than this agreement. The question is, what was the reason for such a proud expression of breach of covenant on the part of Germany and France? In our view, the reason was simply that they believed that both Russia and Vladimir Putin would not survive. So, these two countries actually acted like street thugs, who surrounded the leader of the opposing gang alone in the street, thinking that he would die now, so let’s also tell him what we did to his father. They sit and make confessions. Now think, what will happen, if the same person is survived?

The situation of NATO countries today is the same as these street thugs. Everyone is so scared that they don’t know what to do. A few days ago, French President Emmanuel Macron suggested to NATO countries that they should send troops to Ukraine. All the countries participating in the meeting ran as if saying “Are you out of your mind?” And after that, sometimes one country, sometimes another country, publicly expressed their disapproval of Macron’s proposal, as if to assure Putin, “Look, brother! We are not involved in this.”

Not only this, but the world media also criticized Macron severely. Coincidentally, Macron found two or three countries across NATO that agreed to his proposal. One of them is Latvia, whose total military power consists of only seventeen thousand people. In this situation, one remembers the mouse that said to the elephant while crossing the bridge

“Elephant! This bridge is shaking with the weight of both of us.”

So the French president, encouraged by the rat’s sympathy, stuck to his “commitment” despite the German chancellor’s harsh response. And the situation has become that the entire NATO is being confused by the media. On NATO’s refusal, Macron even said “We have to end our fear” and the next day stated, “we have to end our red lines with regard to Russia”.

Finally, Russian President Vladimir Putin replied that Macron was silenced. Putin said:

“The country that ends the red lines will also end the red line from our side. We are fully prepared for not only regular but also nuclear war.”

The next day, Macron said in an interview:

“Russia’s victory is unacceptable. But we will not take the initiative.”

If you are wondering why America, who is the leader of this gang, is missing from this whole scene?  Your surprise is baseless. NATO countries are worried because the United States has started the process of slipping as per its tradition as soon as it sees the sure defeat of Ukraine. Victoria Nolen, who has worked on Mission Ukraine since 2008, has been fired from the State Office by the Biden administration. While there are reports that the CIA has also evacuated its 12 bases near the Russian border.

Now, Joe Biden’s challenge is that if Russia achieves its goals regarding Ukraine by going very close to the presidential election, how will he be able to protect his election campaign from the effects of this second embarrassment after Afghanistan?  But this is not the total problem of Biden. He is already facing the consequences of his excessive support for Israel during his election campaign.

For example, Michigan is an American state where Biden won with a majority of 200,000 votes in 2020. And there are large numbers of Arab voters in this state who are already campaigning not to vote for the Democrats if Biden is the nominee.

Similarly, in other states too, Muslims are running a regular campaign against Biden. This is why Joe Biden could begin the process of withdrawing from Ukraine to protect himself from the impact of Ukraine’s defeat, but this will not happen.

Experts believe that in order to avoid the effects of this defeat, Western media will be ordered to keep a complete blackout of Ukrainian news. But the question is, which tape will be stuck in Donald Trump’s mouth? Trump was against the Ukraine war from the first day. He will use the defeat as a key trump card against Biden. And not only Ukraine, he will start with Afghanistan and end with Ukraine. This is the whole situation due to which the front of the US presidential elections is running very hot ahead of time.
