Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has kicked off Jail Bharo Movement from Lahore, this movement is part of the ongoing protest of PTI since the removal of Imran Khan’s government in April 2022.
In April last year, after a nerve-racking struggle by the current ruling coalition, Imran Khan’s government was ousted through a no-confidence motion, since then the PTI has been on the streets continuously. In this period of about ten months, where the government is facing a serious failure to restore the economy and provide relief to the people despite its efforts, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has so far held marches, protests, sit-ins, resignations from assemblies and provincial governments.
Despite using various methods of protest like walkouts, it is facing failure towards its main goal of getting new elections.
In this seemingly endless political struggle and confrontation between the government and the opposition, in other words PTI, the warring parties are facing the failure to conquer each other’s front, but the war of elephants, and ants are suffering the most.
Everyone knows that the country is currently facing risks of default due to the deteriorating economic situation, how can the role of political instability in reaching this point of the situation be ignored? But unfortunately, the parties do not care about it so far and they are going to harm the economy by standing on their own fronts.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Jail Bharo Movement, like all its previous movements, is for fresh elections, which is not a wrong demand legally and politically, especially when the government has continuously failed to manage and revive the economy. In a democratic system, taking a fresh mandate at such a time is not a wrong and illegal act.
There is no doubt that new elections are necessary, especially in the two provinces where caretaker governments are established. The elections should be held within the stipulated time according to the constitution.
In view of the current situation, it has become very necessary to hold the election. If elections are necessary in the federation and the provinces simultaneously, then it can be done by holding the election in the federation ahead of time.
There is a need for both parties to take a step back from their own demands, priorities and interests and jointly carry out electoral and economic reforms and move towards an early election. In addition to delaying the election on false pretexts, holding elections without reforms can also have dire consequences.
It is our prayer that the political leaders move towards a better and agreed course of action in the national interest, that is the betterment of the nation and the country.
