ISLAMABAD: An illegal wagon stand has been set up within the jurisdiction of the Golra police station of Islamabad near the directorate concerned of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The vehicle stop, located in front of Gilani Plaza, was established in violation of the rules and regulations. It is also a nuisance for residents of this area and a permanent source of traffic jams in the locality.
Hundreds of wagon and vans are parked in this area at any hour of the day creating a big mess and crippling traffic movement. A man named Nazir, who was present at the stand, said that he was working on the instructions of the owner of Gilani Plaza.
When contacted in this regard, Sub-Inspector of Motorway Police Kashif Khan Niazi informed that the authorities warned them several times and had also issued challans but nothing happened.
“We have to wait for hours to cross the road due to continuous to and fro flow of traffic from illegally set up wagon terminals around the intersection. Due to this, we cannot reach our destination in time,” said a passerby.
Another citizen said, “We are not only facing the traffic jams but also have to bear the brunt of filthy remarks from the drivers seated in the wagons.” The residents of the area have claimed that the police officers of Golra police station and CDA officials receive bribe on monthly basis from the wagon stand owner.
People have demanded of the authorities concerned to take strict action against the illegal bus and wagon stands to save the general public from traffic jams.
