Police in Hyderabad have rescued an Indonesian woman who was allegedly brought to Pakistan on the promise of marriage and subsequently kept in unlawful confinement.
The woman was recovered following police action carried out on the orders of a court.
The woman alleged that her husband had confined her inside the house and had taken possession of her passport and other legal documents.
According to details, the Indonesian woman, Anda Marlin, contacted officials of the Women Development Department through a message, alleging that she had been brought to Pakistan on the promise of marriage and was later allegedly held against her will inside a residence.
Following her complaint, Nasreen Palijo, head of the Women Development Department’s complaint cell, took immediate notice and contacted the police. She submitted a request to Nasim Nagar Police Station seeking the woman’s recovery. However, police reportedly responded in writing that no action had been taken on the complaint regarding her alleged presence at the location.
When the matter remained unresolved, Nasreen Palijo approached the court. Following the court’s order, police raided a house in Gul Latif Society, Qasimabad, and recovered the Indonesian woman. The Women’s Police Station subsequently presented her before the court.
Nasreen Palijo said that everyone is equal before the law and that harassing women or unlawfully confining them is a serious offence. She said the Women Development Department would continue taking all possible measures to protect and support women.
She further stated that police officers would be required to extend full cooperation to the Women Development Department in cases involving the protection and welfare of women.
