LAHORE: Around 8 people have been killed and 40 injured in accidents due to strong wind and rain in different areas of Punjab.
In Khushab, two brothers were killed and their father was injured when lightning struck a car. In Gujranwala, 3 people including a girl died when the roof and walls of a house collapsed.
A woman died due to a lightning strike at her house in DI Khan. A wall collapsed due to heavy rain in Wahari and the woman and her daughter were buried under the debris and injured.
A man named Bashir was killed by lightning while working in the fields in Sheikhupura. In Wazirabad, a motorcyclist hit the green belt after being hit by strong winds and died on the spot.
In Shakargarh, 3 children were seriously injured when the wall of a house on Chamal Road collapsed due to strong winds. The injured children were taken to hospital where two are said to be in critical condition.
Around 37 people were injured due to the severe storm in Bheera, Kabirwala, Sialkot, Pasrur, and Daska. More than 10 cattle worth more than one crore rupees were killed due to lightning in Chiniot.
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz expressed grief over the loss of precious lives during the stormy rains and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families. The Chief Minister issued orders to provide the best treatment to the injured.
He has also directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Water and Sanitation Agency, and other departments to be ready and alert during the storm.
