KARACHI: The city remained in the grip of current rain spell with intermittent showers lashing some parts of the metropolis today (Thursday).
According to details, the rainfall was reported at Old City area, Defense, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Bin Qasim, Malir, Shah Latif Town, F.B. Area, and Dhabeji. An Edhi foundation spokesperson said no human loss or injury was reported from any area of the metropolis.
Meanwhile, Sharea Faisal, the main thoroughfare that links the city with the airport and National Highway was blocked with commuters stuck in their vehicles, according to witnesses.
In a statement, Karachi traffic police advised motorists to take all precautionary steps for safe driving during the heavy downpour and contact their helpline for seeking assistance in case of any emergency.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had predicted intermittent showers till July 16 as the monsoon season begins in the country, with rains in several cities including Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar.
Met Karachi Director Sardar Sarfraz said that low pressure is present over central India and due to circulation over the Arabian Sea, the sea breeze has stopped. Sarfaraz said that intermittent rain is expected in Karachi till July 16 during which there may be heavy rain in some places.
