Heavy fog continue to engulf parts Punjab, effects traffic

LAHORE: Dense fog engulfed many areas of Punjab in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, heavily crippling road traffic and paralyzing daily life.
The Motorway road from Lahore to Darkhana, the Motorway road from Khanewal to Multan (M4), the Motorway route from Gojra to Shorkot (M4) and the Motorway road from Multan to Zahir Pir (M5) were shut down as clarity was decreased to zero meters owing to heavy fog.

Heavy fog also interrupted traffic conditions at the Thokar Niaz Baig to Kot Momin (M-2), Okara, Sahiwal, Multan, Khanewal, Basti Maluk, Lodhran, Bahawalpur and neighboring highways, with visibility down to 40 meters.
The Motorway Police informed the drivers to turn on headlights when traveling at a very slow speed as visibility was limited to zero meters owing to heavy fog, and the Motorway Police even asked the people to stay home and prevent unnecessary travel.
Earlier on January 9, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), had said that fog will encompass plain areas of Punjab, few districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh for the next few days during the night and morning hours.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the synoptic condition suggested the passage of a deep western wave from the upper parts of the country to the eastern divisions. In most parts of the country, cold and dry weather is predicted, while in the northern parts it will be very cold.
