KARACHI: A severe heatwave is set to grip large parts of the country over the next few days, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning that temperatures in several districts could breach the 50°C mark.
The weather forecaster has issued an alert for intense heat from today through May 11, predicting that the mercury in Sindh and Balochistan districts—including Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Sukkur, Sibi, Turbat, and Panjgur—will likely range between 46°C and 50°C.
Not just these, but southern Punjab is also in the firing line, with Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan expected to see temperatures climb to 43°C–47°C.
PMD alert suggests even the northern regions are not immune, as Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Sialkot are forecast to record highs between 39°C and 43°C. In Karachi, the maximum temperature is expected to hover between 35°C and 38°C.
Medical experts and meteorologists have urged citizens to exercise extreme caution, advising against stepping out during peak sun hours and emphasizing the need to stay hydrated. Authorities have recommended that people remain indoors as much as possible to avoid heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses.
