ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan today (Saturday) has announced that the government has decided to impose selective lockdown and sealing the hotspots.
In a press briefing regarding coronavirus situation, PM Imran said, “After analysing with my Punjab team today, we’ve decided that we will not do lockdown but will impose selective lockdown and seal hotspots.”
“The country’s administration and police cannot afford a huge burden of a complete lockdown,” he added. He further said that smart lockdown is the best option for developing countries.
Commenting on the selective lockdown, he said that the government will identify the hotspots and seal them. “In this regard, we will recruit more volunteers in Corona Relief Tiger Force,” he added.
The Prime Minister has also warned that there would be consequences if standard operating procedures (SOPs) not followed.
In a press briefing regarding coronavirus situation, PM Imran once again urged the people of Pakistan to follow SOPs and practice social distancing in order to contain the coronavirus outbreak.
PM Imran said, “The government will strictly ensure that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed by the people,” adding that the strict action against those flouting the rules will be taken.
He said, “The people should understand the consequences of not following the SOPs.” Quoting an example, he said that if people in a factory don’t follow the SOPs, the government will shut that down, and then the poor will lose their income.
Commenting on the situation in India, he said that it has become a major challenge for the Indian government to balance feeding the poor and stemming the spread of the virus. “We wanted to avoid an India-like scenario but now we must follow the SOPs,” he added.
