ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is likely to get its chief minister elected unopposed in Gilgit-Baltistan, said sources close to the situation.
Sources said PPP held backdoor talks with other political parties in Gilgit-Baltistan and convinced them not to field a candidate for the chief minister’s slot.
According to sources, Amjad Hussain Advocate will be PPP’s candidate for chief minister. The party will announce the name after the swearing-in of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
The GB Assembly session has been summoned for 4 pm tomorrow, but a delay in its start is expected.
Sources added that the names of the GB chief minister and speaker will be announced on June 22. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will finalize the names.
Earlier, PPP sources said the party leadership had given the green signal for a coalition government in GB. They also claimed that the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party will be part of the Gilgit-Baltistan government.
