Gilani’s victory

In a major upset in the Senate election, Yousaf Raza Gilani, the joint candidate of opposition parties, was unexpectedly elected senator from Islamabad by defeating Abdul Hafeez Shaikh of the ruling party. In response, Tehreek-i-Insaaf has decided to challenge the result.

Absolutely! They have this right. But the question is, what will they say while presenting the case? They have no option but to say that our party is corrupt, our assembly members sold votes for money. Their whole statement is that we are honest and the opposition is corrupt. But the honest always sells out.

This corrupt party should be banned now. Anyway, their skipper has taken Rs700 million from Abdul Qadir in Balochistan and made him a senator. If the party leader can take money, then why cannot MNAs or MPAs? On the contrary, PTI members wasted votes in favor of Gilani for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) tickets in the next general elections.

It is pertinent to mention here that no member of the Assembly is bound by party policy in the Senate elections. He can cast his vote to any one of his choice. That is why this vote is kept secret. And that is why the Election Commission never takes action against those who vote against his party.

The Election Commission takes action when the money is recovered. How will they prove that Gilani has given money? If an individual is not satisfied with his party and does not want to contest the next election on the party’s ticket, so what is the issue?

Even if the membership of these members is terminated, they cannot be disqualified for the next election. In the by-elections, they will come back as a PDM candidate and will further strengthen the anti-Imran Khan alliance.
