GILGIT BALTISTAN: Canadian High Commissioner Wendy Gilmour has said that Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) has the impact of the most beautiful place in the world with huge potentials in winter sports.
She said this while visiting the 900-years-old Altit Fort and the ancient Altit settlement in Hunza. During the visit, the High Commissioner played ice skating and ice hockey with the local youth and also danced on local traditional music.
She said and promised the Canadian government would further support for promoting sports in the region. The envoy said Canada has been supporting the development works of Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) in Gilgit Baltistan since the 1980s.
She said GB has tremendous beautiful mountains, valleys and postures, and these things invite world tourists to come and enjoy the scenic beauty. Talking about women empowerment through sports, she said sports had vast potential to empower women and girls in Pakistan.
She said Canada believes that advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls is the most effective way to remove the problems of any country.
