Four Lyari gangsters imprisoned for possession of explosives

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court in Karachi sentenced four men to jail for possession of explosives, arms, and ammunition.

Abdul Aziz was sentenced to imprisonment for 10 years, while Sohail alias Sunny, Saleem, and Majid were sentenced to five years each. A fine of Rs50,000 was also imposed on them.

Abdul Aziz was a former member of the Lyari gang war and worked closely with Uzair Baloch. The Rangers arrested them in Lyari’s Baghdadi on March 15, 2019. Illegal weapons and explosives were recovered from their possessions.

The paramilitary force claimed that the suspects had hurled a grenade at a medical store after the owner refused to give them extortion money. They were also responsible for attacking policemen.

In a separate incident, a man who was wounded in a firing incident in Lyari succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital on Tuesday. Abdus Sattar, aged 55, son of Hussain, was injured in a firing incident that took place on Monday night and was shifted to Civil Hospital.

According to SHO Zulfiqar Bajwa, the deceased was sitting with his friend, Hanif Patni, in Nayabad locality of Kalri area where motorcyclists shot him and fled. Sattar had sustained a bullet injury.

A preliminary investigation suggested that the assailants were affiliated with a Lyari-based gang and the attacker wanted to shoot at Patni but missed the target and mistakenly hit his friend. Police have registered a case against the unidentified suspects.
