ANKARA: Former Turkish footballer Rustu Recber has been tested positive for the coronavirus.
According to a foreign news agency, the wife of the former national team goalkeeper said on Instagram that her husband had caught COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.
“I, my daughter and my son all tested negative. Only my husband tested positive,” she said, adding that he was now at a hospital being treated in isolation.
Rushdie, 46, made his way to the semifinals of Turkey in the 2002 World Cup. He is an icon who won many accolades playing for Fenerbahçe, as well.
In Turkey, 131 people have been killed due to the coronavirus, while 9,217 people have been confirmed with the virus.
The coronavirus is spreading worldwide and so far the death toll has reached 34,000 and more than 722 million people have been affected.
