LAHORE: Former Punjab governor and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Sarfraz Cheema has been booked along with eight others for allegedly attempting to grab the land of a widow in Wazirabad.
According to information gathered by MM News, the First Information Report (FIR) was filed on Monday at Ghakkar police station on the complaint of the victim which alleged that Cheema ordered his men to destroy crops and illegally occupy the land belonging to Mehwish in Baghrian village in Wazirabad.
The lady further alleged that Cheema’s men tore her clothes, beat her up, destroyed her crops, and even opened fire. The widow accused Cheema’s men of trying to forcefully take over her land.
The police have registered the case against Cheema and ten unknown persons on charges of land grabbing and assault. After the FIR was filed, the police conducted raids to arrest the accused.
However, when contacted by media, Cheema denied all allegations and called the case “baseless and false.” He stated that there was a property dispute between two parties in Gujranwala and he had nothing to do with it.
The former Punjab Governor claimed that his name was being used to push the case forward, and he had asked the police why his name was registered in the FIR without any evidence. The police reportedly responded that his name was included in the FIR based on the application.
