Flaws pointed out in probe against Anmol alias Pinky

KARACHI: Alleged flaws have come to light in the investigation of cases registered against alleged drug dealer Anmol alias Pinky in Karachi, raising questions over the manner in which the cases were prepared by police.

According to media reports, the Deputy District Prosecutor has returned the interim challans of three cases filed by the Darakhshan police with objections.

The three cases were registered in 2021, in which Anmol alias Pinky was shown as a declared absconder, while each case also included one co-accused who was later acquitted.

According to the public prosecutor, the interim challan did not mention the status of Anmol alias Pinky as a declared person, nor did it mention the acquittal of the co-accused.

Background of recent arrest

The development comes days after law enforcement agencies arrested Anmol alias Pinky in a major operation targeting narcotics networks in the city’s upscale localities.

Investigators say the suspect had been running a well-organised distribution network supplying synthetic drugs, including ice (crystal meth), cocaine and ecstasy, in areas such as Defence and Clifton, with alleged links to the supply of narcotics in educational institutions.

Officials said the suspect had been on the radar of multiple agencies for a long time and was wanted in several cases, with dozens of raids previously conducted to apprehend her. She was later shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

The prosecutor’s objections to the interim challans have now cast doubt on the earlier documentation of the cases, at a time when fresh investigations against the accused are underway.
