The third casualty was reported in Gulshan-e-Ghazi of Baldia Town, where a man lost his life after the wall of his house collapsed due to a strong dust storm.
In another incident, an eight-year-old boy fell from the third floor of a residential building near Teen Talwar in Clifton due to gusty winds and downpours. The boy, identified as Shan, died on the spot.
According to rescue sources, a motorcyclist also died in the Laiquatabad area as his motorbike collide a van. Meanwhile, two women, three children among nine people were injured in rain-related incidents in various parts of the metropolis. Injuries were also reported near Denso Hall and in Malir areas of the port city.
Heavy dust storms and rainfall hit the parts of Karachi on Tuesday under the influence of cyclone Tauktae. Gusty winds blew through the city with intermittent showers in some areas, including New Karachi, Yousuf Goth, Surjani Town, Khuda Ki Basti and Taisar Town.
The sudden change of weather marked an end to the severe spell of the heatwave that sizzled the metropolis over the last few days due to the suspension of sea breezes under the influence of the cyclone. The temperature in Karachi was recorded at 43°C Tuesday afternoon.
However, as a result of the gusty winds, power supply to several areas was affected, including Tariq bin Ziyad Society, Model Colony, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Jackson Market Malir, Shah Faisal Town, Landhi, Korangi and Orangi town.
On Tuesday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rainfall with strong winds in the port city after days of scorching heat.
According to details, the weather in the port city continues to be hot and humid even in the morning. The current temperature of the metropolis is recorded at 32°C whereas the humidity in the air is recorded at 47%.
The weather will remain hot and dry in most parts of the country. “However, there are chances of rainfall with wind dust storms in southeastern and central Sindh under the influence of Cyclone Tauktae,” it added.
The highest temperature of 45°C was recorded in Turbat and Chhor yesterday. Winds from the southeast are blowing at a speed of 14 kmph. The maximum temperature is likely to reach 43°C today.
Meanwhile, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Potohar region are also expected to receive rainfall whereas it is also likely to rain in Gilgit-Baltistan.
