Field Marshal Asim Munir, armed forces honor Major Tufail Shaheed’s supreme sacrifice

The 67th martyrdom anniversary of Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed was observed across the country. On this occasion, Field Marshal Asim Munir and other heads of Pakistan’s armed forces paid tribute to Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed.

According to details, Major Tufail Muhammad was born in Hoshiarpur in 1914. He joined the Punjab Regiment in 1943 and was promoted in 1958 to the position of Company Commander and posted in East Pakistan Rifles. At that time, the situation in East Pakistan was spiraling out of control.

According to history, Major Tufail was assigned a mission against entrenched Indian forces in Lakshmipur. On August 7, 1958, he created a history of bravery and courage by clearing the area of Indian posts. His bravery struck such fear into the enemy ranks that the Indian soldiers were forced to flee, leaving behind their dead.

In this hand-to-hand combat, Major Tufail Muhammad also succumbed to his injuries and was martyred. He was awarded Pakistan’s highest military honor, Nishan-e-Haider. Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Naval and Air Chiefs have paid tribute to Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed on his 67th martyrdom anniversary.

According to ISPR, Major Tufail Muhammad was martyred while bravely confronting the enemy in the Lakshmipur sector. Despite being wounded, he continued to fight and successfully completed his mission, demonstrating courage, unparalleled resolve, and leadership. Pakistan will always be indebted to its martyrs.

In recognition of his unmatched bravery and supreme sacrifice, Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed was awarded the Nishan-e-Haider. ISPR stated that the sacrifices of martyrs are the guarantors of the nation’s peace, stability, and sovereignty. We salute the heroes who offered their lives for the defense of the homeland.
