LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken notice of the lavish wedding of the daughter of a prominent businessman in Lahore last week.
Gujranwala’s chief commissioner of Inland Revenue served notice to Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal, director of Master Tiles, with regard to extravagant expenditure made on the ceremony.
The FBR stated that a notice has been issued under section 176 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 in order to ascertain withholding tax and legal action will be taken accordingly.
The owner of Master Tiles Sheikh Dawood organised extravagant ceremonies for his daughter Unzila Mehmood who tied the knot with the son of Jalal Sons company’s owner Both sides threw massive and grand functions as many celebrities and prominent personalities were spotted attending these events.

Religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel was also present to conduct their Nikah ceremony. Other famous personalities such as Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab on Information Dr Firdous Aashiq Awan was also present. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam provided the entertainment for the event.
The pictures and videos of the event went viral on social media which shows many of the SOPs enforced at weddings due to the coronavirus pandemic such as social distancing and wearing of masks being openly flouted. The wedding also violated the one-dish meal and time duration restrictions.
Meanwhile, to control the spike in COVID-19 cases, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) has banned indoor weddings and allowed up to 1,000 guests in outdoor functions. It has also banned buffet meals and restricted the timing of the wedding for two hours till 10PM.
