ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has dismissed three officials and suspended 45 others since July for their involvement in corruption and irregularities.
According to a statement, the federal body informed that it was determined to rid the organization of corrupt and inefficient elements. “The three dismissed employees were posted at the Faisalabad Regional Tax Office,” it added.
Those suspended include officials of the Model Customs Collectorates in Quetta, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Gwadar and Karachi, Peshawar Transit Trade Directorate, and Hyderabad Intelligence and Investigation IR Directorate.
The revenue authority warned of prompt action against officials found involved in irregularities or demonstrating inefficiency. It also vowed to raise its image and improve the perception of taxpayers about the organization.
In this regard, the FBR has also established an Integrity and Performance Management Unit to address the complaints of taxpayers against any FBR employee. The federal body has also sought permission from Prime Minister Imran Khan to initiate action against two senior officers.
It is worth mentioning here that the purge against the corrupt officials in the tax collection body is witnessed after the federal government on July 04 removed Nausheen Javed from the post of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairperson.
