ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said on Monday that historic stance taken by outgoing Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed on minorities worship places had greatly enhanced his prestige.
In a tweet, the minister said at a time when India’s judiciary seemed helpless at the hands of extremists, judges like Justice Gulzar have supported minorities and given independent verdicts.
In a separate tweet, Fawad urged political parties to put their differences aside and join hands to bring in a constitutional amendment regarding the appointment of judges in higher judiciary.
The minister pointed out that five judges of the Supreme Court are retiring this year and it will be a huge achievement if the parliament makes the process of appointing judges more transparent and independent
It must be noted that Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed is retiring. He will be replaced by senior puisne judge of the apex court Justice Umar Ata Bandial who will take charge as the top judge on February 2.
