RAJANPUR: A notorious dacoit, Shahid Lund, was killed in a coordinated operation by the Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur police on Friday.
According to a Punjab police spokesperson, the operation took place in the Kacha area of Bangla Achha, specifically targeting high-profile criminal elements. Lund was killed in an exchange of fire, ending a long pursuit.
The Punjab government had earlier offered a bounty of Rs10 million on him, underscoring the severity of his criminal record.
Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, praised the efforts of the police teams, describing the operation as a significant step in eliminating criminal and terrorist threats in the region. “Our primary mission is to eradicate terrorists, dacoits, and miscreants from the Kacha areas,” he emphasized.
Lund faced charges for over 28 major offences, including police killings, terrorism, kidnappings for ransom, attacks on law enforcement, murder, and armed robbery, with cases registered in Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.
He was also known for taunting the police on social media, with a viral video in August showing him contacting the Interior Ministry and claiming to be at the top of the most-wanted list while questioning the accuracy of the reward list.
