The government has updated the fees for urgent and normal passports following the arrival of new printing machines. A passport is a mandatory travel document for Pakistani travelers.
Citizens who intend to travel abroad, live, or seek employment for a brighter future and a better income for their families usually prefer to settle abroad for better prospects.
If a citizen meets the requirements for a passport, including providing proof of nationality and other necessary documents, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has the authority to issue a passport to them.
Citizens are required to pay the applicable fee for the issuance of a passport, which is the only document confirming their identity abroad and emphasizing their right to enter and exit the country.
In recent months, thousands, if not millions, of people applying for passports in the normal and urgent categories have faced massive delays, with the backlog increasing due to low passport printing capacity.
Authorities were compelled to push most applicants to apply in the Fast Track category with higher fees due to the delays. However, the government is taking steps by importing 10 desktop printing machines to address the issue.
According to a media report, with the arrival of the new machines, applicants in both categories will soon start receiving their passports on time, and the fee structure has been updated as follows:
What is the Fee?
As of November 2024, the passport fees for both the normal and urgent categories will remain unchanged. The fee for an ordinary passport valid for 5 years will remain the same at Rs. 4,500, while the urgent processing fee will remain Rs. 7,500.
The fee for a 10-year validity passport will be Rs. 6,700 for normal processing, with an urgent fee of Rs. 11,200. For a 72-page passport valid for 5 years, citizens will pay Rs. 8,200 for normal processing and Rs. 13,500 for urgent processing. For a 100-page passport valid for 10 years, the new fee is Rs. 12,400 for normal processing and Rs. 20,200 for urgent processing.
