Member of the Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Senator Faisal Vawda on Wednesday offered to pay fine for all Pakistni citizen jailed in different countries.
As per a report by a private TV channel, he made this offer during a meeting of the Standing Committee and said that he was ready to pay all fines up to Rs. 50 lakh.
Overseas Community Welfare Attaché in Oman briefed the Standing Committee and informed them that there are currently 753 Pakistanis in prison in Oman. Out of them,390 prisoners are imprisoned for 10 years or more.
During the meeting, the Secretary Overseas said that the government does not bear the expenses of prisoners for personal crimes. The Welfare Attaché stated that 19 people in Saudi Arabia have to pay fines of up to 1 million.
On this Senator Faisal Vawda announced to pay fines of all prisoners abroad. “ I am ready to pay fines of 25 to 50 lakhs,” he said.
According to official estimates, over 23,000 Pakistani citizens are suffering in jails across the world, with the highest number in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Greece, India, and Iraq.
