The much-awaited price cut in power tariff may become reality this month, as the CPPA has filed a request for a decrease in the monthly adjustment on December’s fuel price which is scheduled for tomorrow.
If approved, the electricity rates would be cut by Rs. 1.30 per unit for one month. Last month, NEPRA had announced a 20-paise increase per unit last week due to quarterly adjustments.

In September, NEPRA approved a power tariff hike of Rs. 4.34 per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment (MFA) for July 2022. According to the official notification, the additional charges were applied to September bills, affecting all Disco customers except Lifeline users.
According to NEPRA, the CPPA had requested an increase of Rs. 4.69 per unit in the beginning. Following a public hearing on August 31, NEPRA approved the lesser adjustment of Rs. 4.34 per unit as part of FCA for July.
