Expired medical equipment imported from China being sold with new labels

LAHORE: Expired medical equipment imported from China being sold with new stickers and fake dates in Gulf International Market Satellite Town Lahore, sources disclosed on Saturday.

According to sources, Gulf Traders imported Expired medical equipment from China and putting fake stickers of Germany and the USA on it and selling it at high prices in various hospitals in Pakistan.

According to sources, new date stickers on various types of medical test kits are also being sold to government and private hospitals in major cities including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Faisalabad and Lahore.

Sources said the Taxo machine model number 786 imported from China used for various tests is being sold by the owner and staff of Gulf Marketing to hospitals with a fake names.

The E-Light Plus machine is made in Taiwan and is imported from there, but Gulf Marketers are selling the machine under the name of Electa Medical Corporation made by E-Light Plus company, sources added.

“There is no company by the name of E-Light Plus, this company is self-made and these machines are being sold in various departments with counterfeiting,” sources said. Some documents including CRP, ASO, RA are provided to government hospitals, most of the orders for these products come from government hospitals.

Sources further said the PCR kit was imported from China to test for the coronavirus. When the kit expired, the traders started selling it to experts under a new name.

HBA One C Kit Biotime Machine had 500 kits in stock which expired. The expiry date was extended by affixing fake stickers on these kits and sold to MNCH Hospital Faisalabad where the same kits are still considered useful, sources informed.

On the other hand, 40 cartons of Hepatitis B kits expired at Mayo Hospital Lahore, the storekeeper affixed new stickers on them and sent the medicine to Afghanistan and they are continuously sending, sources disclosed. Expiry kits including blood and sugar control are being sold with new date stickers to Allied Hospital Faisalabad.

Biotech Lab, Accurate Lab Satellite Town Rawalpindi and others are using all the expiry kits provided by fake companies, and the company’s owners are earning millions of rupees through fraud which is a big question mark on government performance.
