KARACHI: Dua Mangi, who was abducted by gunmen in Karachi’s Defence area in 2019, has launched a fundraising campaign for the treatment of a friend who risked his life to save her.
Dua was abducted from Bukhari Commercial Area. Her friend, Haris Fatah Soomro, who accompanied her was shot in the neck for putting up resistance. However, a week later the girl returned home under mysterious circumstances after the payment of ransom.
Although Fatah did recover from all his other injuries, the bullet damaged the spinal cord beyond repair and left him paralyzed from his chest down. Dua Mangi launched now a campaign on social media to raise funds for her saviour’s treatment.
In a Facebook post, she said, “When the kidnappers attacked me, there was only one brave and fearless man who tried to save me without risking his life and that is my friend Harris,” Dua Mangi said.
Dua Mangi said, “Harris struggled hard in his life but unfortunately Harris has not been able to stand on his own two feet. We contacted a doctor abroad for treatment of Harris.”
“Doctors have claimed that Harris will be able to walk without any support after the treatment, but a lot of money is needed for this treatment,” she said.
“When this incident happened to me, the government said it would pay for Harris’ treatment, but a year passed and no government agency contacted us,” she added, urging the people to donate for the cause.
People from all walks of life donated overwhelming with an open heart for the cause. She said she was grateful to everyone who donated and shared the message.
“We are blessed with amazing friends and the sweetest well-wishers whose empathy knows no bounds,” she said. She thanked others for restoring her faith in humanity. She said Harif was in so much pain but now both are the happiest people in the world.
