The family of Dr Akash has called off its protest at Teen Talwar in Karachi after successful negotiations with Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, who assured them of support in pursuing justice.
According to the family, the decision to end the demonstration came after the mayor pledged to meet with the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police and personally facilitate efforts to ensure progress in the investigation.
The family said it would decide its next course of action after holding talks with the Sindh IG. Until then, the protest at Teen Talwar has been suspended.
Following the end of the demonstration, Dr Akash’s body was taken from the protest site and transferred to the Chhipa morgue.
Dr Akash was fatally shot during an alleged robbery attempt near Teen Talwar in Karachi’s Clifton area shortly after withdrawing cash from a bank.
Police said the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Frere police station. According to investigators, Dr Akash had withdrawn Rs5 million and was driving away in his Alto car when armed men intercepted his vehicle near the bank.
The suspects allegedly robbed him of Rs2.5 million before opening fire and fleeing the scene. Bank security guards returned fire in an attempt to stop the attackers, but the suspects managed to escape.
Police have launched an investigation and are working to identify and arrest those involved in the robbery and killing.
