A tumultuous scene unfolded late Friday night as local police detained more than 50 individuals allegedly involved in a violent assault on a KFC Fast Food Outlet in Mirpur.
The incident occurred in the northeastern town of Mirpur, situated in the Pakistan-administered region of Kashmir, following a gathering of protesters on the town’s main thoroughfare after Ramadan evening prayers.
Social media footage depicts men chanting anti-Israel slogans while brandishing a banner emblazoned with “Free Palestine.”
Mirpur AJK Senior Superintendent of Police, Kamran Ali, released a statement to the media on Saturday, disclosing ongoing efforts to apprehend additional suspects who were involved in the assault on the Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet in sector F/1 of the city.
During the pro-Palestinian protest, demonstrators denounced the outlet as a supporter of Israel, urging a boycott of KFC products. Police operations, including raids aided by CCTV footage, are underway to identify and arrest all individuals implicated in the attack. Legal proceedings have been initiated with a case filed at the relevant police station.
SSP Kamran Ali provided insight into the incident, revealing that approximately 350 individuals participated in a protest rally originating from a local mosque on Allama Iqbal Road at around 9:00 pm Friday. The rally condemned Israeli aggression against Palestinian Muslims and called for a boycott of the KFC outlet’s fast-food products. Authorities are also identifying individuals responsible for incitement for appropriate legal action.
