WASHINGTON: Donald Trump was rushed off stage covered in blood after gunshots rang out during a campaign rally on Saturday in Pennsylvania.
As the shots were fired, Trump visibly grimaced and held his right ear, where blood was seen on his cheek and mouth.
The attacker and at least one civilian are reportedly dead, while two attendees suffered injuries. Investigators said the gunman fired multiple shots from an elevated position outside before being shot by Secret Service personnel.
The dramatic turn of events occurred shortly after Trump had taken the stage at what was intended to be his final rally before the upcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. The rally, initially filled with enthusiastic supporters, quickly descended into chaos as security personnel rushed to secure the area.
Security agents swiftly moved in, surrounding the Republican candidate and escorting him off the stage, though Trump managed to defiantly raise his fist to the crowd before being taken away.
Security personnel remain vigilant after the former president was rushed off stage during a rally on July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania.
This shocking incident is likely to heighten concerns in a nation already on edge due to fears of unrest and political tensions leading up to the November election showdown between Trump and President Joe Biden.
