Domino’s, a pizza chain in the U.S., has announced to give away free pizza worth $1 million after a red card issued to a U.S. Men’s National Team player during a World Cup match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The offer was triggered after US player Folarin Balogun was shown a red card and sent off during a match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The pizza company had pledged in May, ahead of the tournament, that it was fully prepared for the global football event. In its official statement, Domino’s said that for every red card received by a US player during the tournament, it would provide fans with free “emergency pizza” as a way to ease the disappointment. Under the campaign, more than 60,000 medium-sized pizzas are expected to be distributed.
During the match, Balogun delivered a strong performance for the United States, scoring a goal before being sent off in the second half after receiving a red card. Despite his dismissal, the US team maintained its lead and secured qualification for the next round.
Following the win, American fans are set to receive free pizzas from Domino’s. However, the offer is limited to those who registered on the company’s website before June 10 and joined the promotional program.
Domino’s described the “emergency pizza” campaign as an effort to make major sporting events more exciting by rewarding fans during unexpected moments in matches.
