Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), did not request any concessions in a letter directed to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, as stated by PTI’s attorney, Faisal Chaudhry, on Monday.
While speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Chaudhry disclosed that the former prime minister had reached out to the army chief, articulating his hopes for a constructive response that would serve the nation’s best interests.
“In his correspondence, he emphasized that the army is an institution of the country and called upon the populace to unite in support of it,” he remarked.
The legal representative noted that arrangements had been made for Khan to meet with his family and legal advisors, in line with standard operating procedures. However, he condemned the fact that, despite court directives, Bushra Bibi was denied the opportunity to see her husband. “Bushra Bibi has been subjected to solitary confinement,” Chaudhry stated.
He further indicated that certain factions within the country were intentionally obstructing political stability. “There was a discussion regarding a policy shift yesterday, yet it has been openly contravened today,” he remarked.
Chaudhry also criticized the ruling coalition for ignoring the public’s electoral mandate. “On February 8 of last year, our electoral mandate was usurped. This year, we will commemorate a black day on the same date,” he asserted.
Additionally, PTI leader Aliya Hamza had requested permission to hold a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan, which was denied by the authorities, he noted. “Media freedom in Pakistan has been curtailed through legislation such as PECA,” he claimed.
