Allegations of corruption of Rs2 trillion were leveled against DG Civil Aviation (CAA) Khaqan Murtaza and his team, local news daily reported on Sunday.
The CAA Officers Employees Association penned a letter dated Feb 06 to Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and secretary aviation, according to Express News, contending that Muratza was “not qualified” to hold office and expressing reservations that his team was likely to cause further harm to the country.
According to the letter, more than Rs1.3 trillion was wasted since the ownership of the airport site was not turned over.
A loss of Rs10 billion in lease payments at Karachi Airport and further damage owing to the CAA’s failure to recover arrears of over Rs300 billion are also mentioned in the document. It also claims that bogus licenses were issued for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the country’s flag carrier.
Furthermore, a loss of Rs400 billion has been incurred on the Rs450 billion property of Lahore Walton Airport.
According to reports, the CAA officers also asserted that the prime minister and his cabinet’s explicit directives regarding Benazir Bhutto International Airport were disregarded.
They further claimed that the DGCAA registered two Land Cruisers and a Prado vehicle improperly.
Over 100 employees reportedly had to go before the court because the DGCAA refused to cooperate, and the letter further alleges that during his tenure, he gave his close friends and family members contractual positions without consulting other institutions about outsourcing.
Complaints were also made that the issue of pensioners was not taken seriously.
