DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The death toll from the suicide attack on the Manjhi Khel joint police and army check post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district has risen to 12, while around 30 others were injured, according to updated information shared by local journalist Aslam Awan.

The attack took place late Thursday night when a vehicle reportedly laden with explosives rammed into the joint security check post on the main highway linking Tank with Dera Ismail Khan, triggering a powerful explosion followed by an exchange of fire.

According to the latest details, those who lost their lives include nine army personnel, two police constables and one employee of the Forestry Department. Around 30 people sustained injuries in the attack, with several of the wounded shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan for treatment.
Soon after the explosion, police, security forces and rescue teams rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area and launched a clearance operation that continued through the night. Additional security personnel were deployed and a high alert was declared across the district.
Earlier, District Police Officer (DPO) Tank Abdul Samad had said authorities were unable to immediately determine the extent of casualties and damage due to darkness and the ongoing operation. Officials had stated that a comprehensive assessment would be completed after the site was fully secured.
Following the attack, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi sought a report from the relevant authorities, condemned the assault and expressed condolences over the loss of security personnel. He also directed officials to ensure the provision of the best possible medical treatment to the injured.
In the wake of the incident, Deputy Commissioner Tank Jamshed Khan imposed Section 144 in several parts of the district to maintain law and order.
Under the notification, traffic remains restricted from 6am to 6pm until further orders on roads passing through Dabra, Tank Bypass, Boltonabad, Garha Pathar, Garha Hayat, Ranwal, Manjhi Khel and Bhagwal, while Ranwal Bazaar has also been ordered closed during the same hours. Law enforcement agencies, rescue services, ambulances, fire brigades and other emergency services have been exempted from the restrictions.
