MULTAN: Renowned religious scholar Mufti Abdul Qavi has claimed that the Pakistan-based US blogger Cynthia Ritchie had requested him for a meeting several times but he refused.
In an interview with a local Urdu newspaper, Mufti Abdul Qavi claimed, “During the Qandil Baloch case, Cynthia had asked me several times for an interview, but since I already knew about her, I refused to do so.”
He further claimed that few politicians from South Punjab were also friends of Cynthia D. Ritchie. “I was afraid to meet her because I was involved in the investigation of the Qandil Baloch case,” he added.
Earlier, the controversial scholar had said that any drink containing less than 40 percent alcohol was Halal in Islam. He said that it was permissible for all the Muslims to consume such drinks.
Mufti Qavi was one of the suspects in the 2016 murder case of social media personality Qandeel Baloch. However, he was granted bail later by a court in Multan.
Judge Sardar Iqbal Dogar of the Multan Session Court resumed the hearing of the case and read out the charge seats to the suspects. All five accused pleaded not guilty after charges were readout.
