LAHORE: The Railway operations will remain suspended till Ramzan amid coronavirus threat in the country.
As per details, the federal government rejected the request of Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed over resuming the railways’ operations as a measure taken in the wake of rising coronavirus cases in the country.
Moreover, the railway authorities have been informed about the suspension of the train operation till Ramzan. Sheikh Rasheed was scheduled to announce the resumption of the train services from 15th April but however, the federal government turned down the decision.
Last month, he suspended the railway operations countrywide. The decision was announced via a video conference chaired by the federal minister. He also announced to pay the railway employees their salaries despite the shutdown of train services. “Around 20 to 22 trains will be made functional as soon as the lockdown is lifted,” he claimed.
He also lamented that the railway department is bearing a deficit of Rs. 1 billion every month due to suspension of services. “We have made quarantine gates on every railway station,” he said.
