COVID-19 a chance for Pakistan to make its own products: Razak Dawood

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood has said that the COVID-19 situation is a golden opportunity for Pakistan to pursue making products on its own.
In a series of tweets, Razak Dawood wrote, Pakistan must move towards making products on its own rather than importing items. “The new changes will allow the country to facilitate local production thereby moving towards local manufacturing and pursuing ‘Make In Pakistan Policy’,” he added.

“Many businesses are on the verge of closure [and] many labourers are under the threat of losing their jobs,” he wrote. “Under the circumstances, the need of the hour is a policy whereby we do not import but make products in Pakistan,” he further wrote.
Dawood noted that the coronavirus has changed the world and business processes will be changed too. “Such difficult times always bring out new opportunities, new products, new ways of thinking,” he said.
Earlier, the advisor said despite the huge challenge of debt, Prime Minister Imran Khan preferred to give relief to people who are suffering from lockdown restrictions.
He said just one program is not adequate to support all segments of the society, therefore the government is introducing various programs to assist all sectors.
