Real Madrid’s players, coaches and ‘main directors’ have agreed to receive a pay cut of 10-20 percent this year as the club deals with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision has been taken to help workers at the club get through the crisis. The club’s basketball team has also agreed on voluntary pay cuts.
According to a statement issued by the club, the cuts will range between 10 to 20 percent for the year in order to avoid more radical measures that “would affect other employees” as well seeking to palliate the effects of the stoppage.
It added the decision would help mitigate a decrease in income “as a result of the suspension of competitions and the paralysis of a large part of its commercial activities”.
Earlier on March 8, the last match of the Spanish tournament – La Liga – was held while Spain has been under a state of alarm for three weeks and will continue to be in lockdown until 26 April.
It was announced last month that Barcelona players would take a 70 percent pay cut and make additional contributions to ensure non-sporting staff received full wages.
