A member of the council that advises Iran’s supreme leader died today (Monday) after falling victim to the novel coronavirus, state’s media reported.
The death of Council member – Mohammad Mirmohammadi – became the first government official to succumb to coronavirus, as Iran announced the virus had killed 66 people among 1501 cases confirmed in country.
According to the state’s radio, Mirmohammadi died at the age of 71, in a north Tehran hospital of the COVID-19. 
Expediency Council advises Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as settles disputes between the top cleric and parliament.
Mirmohammadi’s death comes as other top officials have contracted the virus in Iran.
Iran has the highest death toll in the world after China — the mainland of coronavirus.
