PUNJAB: As many as 5,663 cases have been registered against hoarders and profiteers in Punjab over the violation of Section 144 which was imposed to limit coronavirus spread in the province.
According to a spokesperson for Punjab police, 153 cases have been registered over the violation of the Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act.
The spokesman added that the actions were being taken against those artificially escalating the prices of and hoarding essential commodities.
Punjab police took action against 57 shops and four restaurants for violating Section 144, the spokesman said, adding that 26,401 people had been checked so far at the 1,282 check-posts established in this regard.
Meanwhile, Punjab police chief, Shoaib Dastagir ordered the regional and district police authorities to accelerate actions against those violators and make sure that officers and personnel deployed on field duties stick to adopt precautionary steps against the coronavirus outbreak.
