ISLAMABAD: At least 1,038 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Pakistan while 46 more died in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally of fatalities to 21,828.
According to figures released by the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), 944,065 people were infected with coronavirus across the country. During the last 24 hours, 42,113 tests were carried out to diagnose coronavirus, bringing the total number of tests to 13,934,402.
The new infections emerged when 35,039 tests were conducted with a positivity rate recorded at 2.46 percent, the NCOC said. So far 878,740 people have recovered their health back from the deadly virus, while 2,676 are still said to be critical across the country.
In a bid to help vaccinate people who need to travel abroad, the federal government had revised guidelines for the AstraZeneca vaccine and allowed citizens who are 18 or older to get the jab.

Earlier, the Sindh government issued a warning about the fourth wave of coronavirus in the country in view of the concerns of the Indian coronavirus in the country. Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, while issuing instructions to expedite the vaccination process in the province three days ago, said that the country could face the fourth wave of coronavirus due to various emerging forms of the virus.
It may be recalled that after Punjab province, the Sindh government also announced to block mobile phone SIMs of citizens who did not get corona vaccine. The Punjab government, led by Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, has already announced the suspension of mobile phone SIMs of those who have not been vaccinated against corona, while the Sindh government also announced the closure of mobile SIMs yesterday.
