Coronavirus claims 12 more lives in Sindh  

KARACHI: The novel coronavirus has claimed 12 more lives and infected 855 people during the past 24 hours in Sindh.

In a statement on the daily COVID-19 situation, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that 12 more people died from the virus during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from the disease to 3,623 in the province.

The chief minister informed that 855 more people tested positive for the coronavirus during the same period, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 219,452 in the province.

The chief minister said that out of the 855 new COVID-19 cases, 791 emerged only in Karachi on Monday. Murad Ali Shah said that 440 more patients were recovered from the infection over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 197,870.

Pakistan has so far conducted 6,819,699 COVID-19  tests and 44,392 in the last 24 hours. 440,660 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 1,784 patients are in critical condition.

According to NCOC data, the national positivity rate is 5.8%. Karachi has the highest positivity rate in the country at 15.7% followed by Peshawar at 15.5 % and Mirpur is the third-highest with 9.2%.

Sindh has a positivity rate of 8.1%, Punjab 4.7%, Balochistan 3.8% and KP 5.3%. Whereas, Islamabad’s positivity rate stands at 3.3%, Gilgit-Baltistan 1.4 percent and AJK at 8.5%. Karachi has so far confirmed five cases of the new UK COVID-19 variant in UK returnees.
