RAWALPINDI: United States (US) CENTCOM Commander General Michael Erik Kurilla called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir.
During the meeting matters of mutual interest, regional security situation and defence cooperation were discussed, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said. Both reiterated the desire to further enhance bilateral relations in all fields.
The visiting dignitary acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan Army’s successes in fight against terrorism and Pakistan’s continued efforts for bringing peace and stability in the region, the military’s press wing said.
In December last year, US CENTCOM commander conducted a video teleconference after the appointment of army chief Gen Syed Asim Munir. The two military leaders talked about strengthening security cooperation between Pakistan and the United States.
A brief statement, issued by the Centcom headquarters, said Gen Kuilla spoke with COAS Gen Munir, who replaced Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Nov 29, via video teleconference.
The statement pointed out that the two generals “have a previously established relationship from Gen Kurilla’s time as Centcom Chief of Staff.”
Gen Kurilla congratulated Gen Munir on his new position and “the two leaders discussed US-Pakistan security cooperation efforts and strengthening the bilateral relationship,” it added.
