CNS dismisses Rana Sanaullah’s bail plea in drug case

LAHORE: A bail plea of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member Rana Sanaullah has been dismissed by the special court for Control of Narcotics Substances (CNS) an in a drug case.
However, five co-accused, namely Usman, Anwar, Umar Farooq, Rustum Ali and Sibtain’s bail were approved by the court.
An Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) prosecutor contended before the court that the former Punjab law minister could not be granted bail on medical grounds as he was getting treatment inside jail.
Lawyer of Rana Sanaullah argued that ANF which has been a complainant in the case against his client had become a witness itself.
He recalled former president Asif Ali Zardari was booked in a case similar to the one the PML-N leader has been facing.
The council stated that ANF had failed to present any concrete evidence against his client and added that Sanaullah was not informed about the reason behind his arrest when he was taken into custody.

He said that the PML-N leader had suffered a paralysis attack two months before his arrest and that he has been forced to sleep on a mat in jail. Besides, he was not being provided with the food recommended by his doctors.
The court had earlier on 14th September extended the judicial remand of Rana Sanaullah until 28th September.
The ANF had arrested Rana Sanaullah on 1st July after allegedly recovering huge cache of controlled substances from his vehicle. Whereas, the opposition has rejected the allegations and called the arrest a foul play.
ANF claimed that it had seized a large number of drugs in possession of Sanaullah and lodged a case under section 9 (C) of Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997.
Both sections carry the death penalty, life imprisonment or a jail-term that may extend to 14 years along with a fine up to Rs.1 million.
