Canada opens its doors for Pakistani workers

In a landmark development, the government of Punjab has formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Canada, paving the way for the deployment of Pakistani manpower to the North American nation.

The signing ceremony took place at the Consulate General in Vancouver and was attended by provincial ministers S. M. Tanveer and Bushra Rahman, along with Consul General Jahanzeb Khan. The initiative was in response to a formal request from the Pakistan Western Canada Trade Association, seeking assistance from the Punjab government to address workforce needs in various Canadian provinces.

Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, expressed optimism about the MoU, foreseeing it as a catalyst for a new era of economic development. The agreement not only focuses on labor cooperation but also includes a commitment to collaboration on initiatives promoting religious and educational tourism, aiming for mutual benefits for both countries.

The caretaker Punjab government approved dispatching manpower to Canada, and a three-member ministerial delegation from Punjab visited Vancouver to finalize the terms of the MoU.

Caretaker Information Minister Punjab, Aamir Mir, highlighted that the agreement is anticipated to bolster bilateral trade, investment, and tourism, ushering in a new phase of cooperation and economic synergy between Punjab and Canada. Provincial Minister SM Tanvir emphasized that the MoU is designed to strengthen economic ties between Punjab and the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta in Canada.

While the precise number of workers to be sent to Canada and the selection criteria for professionals have not been clarified by the government, it is expected that detailed information on these aspects will be disclosed shortly. This momentous agreement signals a significant step towards fostering collaboration and facilitating economic exchange between Punjab and Canada.
