Britney Spears has voluntarily entered a rehabilitation facility, five weeks after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
The 44-year-old pop star reportedly checked herself into a substance abuse treatment centre, according to an email shared with The Associated Press on Sunday.
Spears was arrested on March 5 after the California Highway Patrol received reports of a BMW driving at high speed and “erratically” on US Highway 101 in Ventura County, near the Los Angeles County line.
She was later taken into custody on charges of driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol and booked at Ventura County Main Jail, located northwest of Los Angeles. Spears, who resides in the area, was released several hours later the same day.
She is scheduled to appear in court on May 4 in connection with the case.
Spears has largely stayed out of the music industry in recent years, and in 2024 she said that she would “never return to the music industry,” marking a continued break from her earlier career in pop music.
