KASUR: Residents across parts of central Punjab witnessed a dramatic celestial display late last night when an intensely bright fireball streaked across the sky, briefly turning night into day.
The phenomenon, which was captured in multiple videos now circulating on social media, including footage from Kasur described as a ball of fire and a falling shooting star, shows a brilliant white object with a glowing tail moving at high speed before fading out.
Eyewitnesses reported that the object appeared for several seconds and was visible from several surrounding districts.
Experts say the object was a bolide, an exceptionally bright meteor commonly known as a fireball. Such events occur when a small fragment of asteroid or comet debris enters the Earth’s atmosphere at extremely high velocity.
The intense friction and compression of air in front of the object causes it to heat to thousands of degrees, resulting in the brilliant flash of light seen from the ground. Most such objects completely disintegrate high in the atmosphere and do not reach the ground.
There have been no reports of any damage or impact on the ground.
Astronomers have clarified that the event was entirely natural and not related to space debris or any man made activity.
