ISLAMABAD: The government has appointed former Director-General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Brigadier (retd) Musaddiq Abbasi as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for accountability.
Brigadier (retd) Musaddiq Abbasi will replace Mirza Shahzad Akbar who stepped down from this position. Musaddiq Abbasi has held senior positions in NAB.
A notification by the Cabinet Division stated: “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 93 of the Constitution […], the president, on the advice of the prime minister, has been pleased to appoint Brig (retired) Musaddiq Abbasi as adviser to the prime minister on accountability and interior with immediate effect.”
It should be noted that Mirza Shahzad Akbar, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior, had resigned two days ago, saying said that he was resigning but would remain associated with PTI.
In this regard, reliable sources said that the Prime Minister’s Office had demanded the resignation of Akbar. The prime minister had asked Shehzad Akbar for details of cases against corruption in the courts.
