Former President Bill Clinton, 78, is admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital on Monday afternoon for testing and observation after developing a fever, according to his deputy chief of staff, Angel Urena.
“He remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving,” Urena said in a statement.
Clinton, who served as president from 1993 to 2001, recently addressed the Democratic National Convention in Chicago and campaigned ahead of the November election for Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, whose White House bid was unsuccessful.
Over the years, Clinton has faced several health issues. In 2004, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery, followed by lung surgery in 2005 and coronary stent procedures in 2010. A largely vegan diet helped him improve his health after these challenges.
In 2021, Clinton was hospitalized in California for six days due to a urological infection that spread to his bloodstream, though he never went into septic shock. At the time, he was treated in an intensive care section but didn’t require ICU-level care.
