A buffalo in Bangladesh, affectionately nicknamed “Donald Trump” because of its distinctive blond tuft of hair, has narrowly escaped being sacrificed during Eidul Adha after authorities intervened at the last minute.
The unusual animal, weighing nearly 700 kilograms, had already been sold for ritual slaughter before growing public fascination prompted government action.
Officials said the buffalo attracted huge crowds after videos and photos of the animal spread widely on social media ahead of the Eid festival.
Concerned about security and crowd control, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered that the buffalo be spared, the buyer compensated, and the animal transferred to the national zoo in Dhaka.
Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha said the nickname was inspired by the buffalo’s blond fringe, which reminded his younger brother of former US President Donald Trump. He described the animal as calm and friendly, adding that it requires special care, including regular baths and frequent feeding.
Albino buffaloes are extremely rare in Bangladesh, where most livestock are dark-colored, making the animal a unique attraction during the busy Eid cattle season.
